Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Policy

 


The Nephrotic Syndrome Trust (NeST) is committed to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of its work as a charity. We aim to ensure everyone has the opportunity to participate in NeST’s operations, free from discrimination or exclusion. 

 

The purpose of this policy is to: 

1. Ensure equality, fairness, and respect for all individuals who interact with NeST. 

2. Oppose unlawful discrimination based on the protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010: 

   - Age 

   - Disability 

   - Gender reassignment 

   - Marriage and civil partnership 

   - Pregnancy and maternity 

   - Race (including colour, nationality, and ethnic or national origin) 

   - Religion or belief 

   - Sex 

   - Sexual orientation 

3. Promote inclusivity in all areas, including but not limited to: 

   - Employment terms and conditions 

   - Training, development, and progression opportunities 

   - Grievances and disciplinary matters 

   - Flexible working requests 

   - Events and activities conducted by NeST

   - Encouraging equal opportunities within the charity and its operations. 

   - Recognizing and valuing the diverse contributions of all employees, volunteers, and stakeholders. 

 


2. Creating an Inclusive Environment 

   - Providing a workspace free from bullying, harassment, victimization, and unlawful discrimination. 

   - Promoting dignity and respect, with training and support for staff and volunteers to understand their responsibilities under this policy. 

 


3. Handling Complaints Seriously 

   - Addressing complaints of bullying, harassment, victimization, and discrimination promptly and fairly. 

   - For example: Sexual harassment or harassment under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997 may lead to legal consequences, and NeST will act accordingly

 


4. Ensuring Accessibility 

    - Making reasonable adjustments to employment, volunteering and events to ensure people with disabilities are included.

 

5. Providing Equal Opportunities 

   - Offering training, development, and progression opportunities based on merit to maximize individual potential and organizational efficiency. 

6. Monitoring and Reviewing Practices 

   - Regularly evaluating policies and practices to ensure fairness and compliance with legal updates. 

 


Accountability and Procedures

The NeST Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Policy is endorsed by the Board of Trustees and communicated to all employees, volunteers, and supporters. 

 


1. Grievance Handling 

   - Concerns can initially be reported to the Director of NeST. 

   - If unresolved, the Board of Trustees will work to achieve resolution promptly. 

 


2. Monitoring 

   - NeST will monitor diversity metrics and equality outcomes to continuously improve its practices.

This policy is supported and upheld by the Board of Trustees, employees, and volunteers as part of NeST’s commitment to inclusive charity work.
