Bristol researchers have made and exciting breakthrough!

“ Researchers have discovered a crucial cell signalling pathway in the kidney, called neuropeptide Y, that when blocked with a specific drug reduces the amount of protein that leaks into the urine (proteinuria). Fascinatingly this signalling pathway is highly abundant in the nervous system but had not been described to be important in the kidney before. It potentially opens up a new way of treating kidney disease that results in proteinuria such as diabetic kidney disease and nephrotic syndrome”
